MoChester is a 4-piece rock-reggae driven band from Rochester, NY. The band’s name is actually a fusion of the city it started in and Motown, one of its original influences. While the Motown groove provided early inspiration for the group, their current sound has a mainstream flair that has been compared to a blend of O.A.R. and Incubus, with a west coast swagger reminiscent of The Dirty Heads and Sublime. Their arsenal of original material stretches across numerous genres, from the pop-flavored anthem “Crackerjack Tattoos”, to the reggae-infused jam “Lost and Found”.

The members of MoChester consists of Brandon Sheffer on lead vocals and guitar, Jonathan Sheffer on keys, guitar and backup vocals, Ben Overmyer on bass guitar, and Alex Melville on drums. The band was formed in 2001, but had a fresh start in 2011 with the addition of Overmyer and the release of their debut album “Stop and Go”. The 11-track album contains refreshing, interesting arrangements coupled with harmony-rich hooks, and is available for purchase at shows and through online music vendors such as iTunes and Amazon. In September 2013, the band released their sophomore effort, “Lost and Found”. While a solid pop foundation remains, the record has more of a rock reggae influence than its predecessor. Notable tracks include “Saturday Night”, “Lost and Found”, and “Scapegoat”.

In addition to their work in the studio, other highlights for the band include being chosen to film a live performance for the 3rd season of WXXI’s “OnStage” television series, and sharing the stage with the likes of national touring artists such as Barenaked Ladies, Passafire, Ballyhoo!, Badfish – Sublime Tribute, Tower of Power, and the Ryan Montbleau Band. MoChester has an extensive list of venues they have performed at in the Northeast, as well as many notable performances at events such as Rochester’s Fringe Festival, East End Festival, Lilac Festival, Clothesline Arts Festival, Park Ave Festival, and Party In The Park, plus The Great New York State Fair, HOG Fest, Fairport Food & Music Festival, Canandaigua Music & Arts Festival, Finger Lakes Music & Wine Festival, Rochester Marathon, and Sailfest (CT).

MoChester’s plans for the future include a return to the studio in 2016 to begin work on their 3rd album. Details are forthcoming.

PATRICE
http://www.patrice.net/

Somewhere in the sky, between Europe and Africa, a German fashion designer crossed paths with a Sierra Leonean writer. Love creates. What emerged was a living metaphor of this encounter. A life riddled with juxtapositions of humanity, and the love and spiritual presences that bind us.
Born in Germany, his name is Patrice Babatunde Bart-Williams.
Patrice. An ode to the slain Congolese leader. Babatunde. A Yoruba name calling on the father’s return and a signification of our ancestor’s immortality. Patrice took his first breath on the same day that his African grandfather took his last.
Bart-Williams. A moniker exposing his family’s roots, creoles returning to an Africa, Sierra Leone, different from that which they were snatched from.
And then, Patrice turned 11.
“My quest for purpose and identity became a matter of survival. I was growing up in an environment where there was no one like me and where people acted surprised when they heard me speaking my mother tongue.”
His life had just been torn asunder. Gaston Bart-Williams, Patrice’s father, a writer and Sierra Leone’s first filmmaker, the man who’d prodded him to deliver beers to Germany stranded Blues great, Champion Jack Dupree, had died in a boating accident off the coast of Sierra Leone.
Surrogate father’s quickly consumed the world of the young one. Bob Marley pushed Patrice’s philosophies of love and righteousness while Bob Dylan gently encouraged his awareness of freedom’s responsibilities. 2 Live Crew rode with him on his skateboard, competing for space with Fela Kuti’s shrine and the Fugees ballads. A year later, Patrice allowed his first song, “You Always You,” to escape his mind. Two years after this, an entire album fled.
“I always believed that my days were numbered, so I was in a big rush to get things done. My early encounter with death triggered something. An appreciation for life, the subject that became the main theme of my early work, up until now.”
Skipping from the school bench to the world stage, Patrice released his first EP and before graduation, walked across the stage to open for Lauryn Hill’s Miseducation Tour. He brought soul on tours with the original Black Eyed Peas, and once his album dropped, his career soared. His portfolio of music weaves aching blues, stirring soul, rebel punk and righteous reggae, leaving no room for labels.
Known more for his live shows, people hyped Patrice by word of mouth alone. His live shows sold out without album releases. In the most unexpected places like Portugal or Romania 5000 people turning up and singing his songs word for word, as “Lions”, “Everyday Good” and later “Soulstorm” leaked across fan’s consciousness. That’s been the story of the growth of his music.
It’s a bootleg success and one that has leapt into Patrice’s producing work with acclaimed artists Cee-Lo, Selah Sue, and of course, soul lover’s favorite 2012 album, Cody ChesnuTT’s, “Landing on a Hundred.”
Patrice’s latest venture into his life’s work, the album “The Rising of the Son,” acts as a personification of where he began at age 11. Journeys throughout the African Diaspora brought sounds from Jamaica, Cologne, Germany, France and the UK into a powerful medley of note symbols. Acclaimed Kingston based producer, Don Corleone, pushes “Rising” into a new era of reggae creations, and surrogate father, Bob Marley, steams through the rhythms captured in his Tuff Gong studios.
To accompany, “Rising,” Patrice produced and directed a short film that takes the audience full circle to his, and all of our beginnings, in Africa, and to his resurrection as the son of a director.

LADY MOON AND THE ECLIPSE
http://ladymoonandtheeclipse.com/

Lady Moon & The Eclipse is a multicultural seven-piece band based in Brooklyn, NY. Through soaring vocal textures and R&B/afrobeat-influenced rhythms, their music sheds light on social issues. With a marked emphasis on inclusivity and spiritual unity, Lady Moon & The Eclipse explores relevant topics through a unique tapestry of cultural perspectives borne out of its African, Asian and European band members.

After a series of both chance encounters and mindful collaborations across San Francisco and New York City, Lady Moon & The Eclipse came together in October 2014. “Lady Moon” is vocalist Ngonda Badila, whose name means “moon” in Congolese. The rest of the band serves as the “sun” that bestows light upon her; during each stage performance the audience experiences a metaphorical “eclipse.” Hence the name — Lady Moon & The Eclipse. The band is a true conglomeration of artists; when off stage, band members pursue diverse mediums ranging from dance to visual arts to environmental science.

Despite its recent establishment, Lady Moon & The Eclipse has deeply rooted itself into the music community throughout the past year. In December 2014 they completed a four-night residency at PianoFight in San Francisco, where they ushered in the opening weekend of “San Francisco‘s next landmark entertainment venue.” In March 2015, they participated in The Greenspace WNYC/WQXR Battle of the Boroughs and made it to the final round. Recently, they have partnered with Brooklyn Wildlife to curate and produce a series of events called The Gospel. Lady Moon & The Eclipse is currently in the process of recording their first EP, set to release late September on CD and online.

In a deeply politicized and fragmented society, Lady Moon & The Eclipse stands as a musical anomaly that promotes the individual voices of its diverse band members and their cultural narratives. They strongly believe in inclusivity, which is starkly evident in their eclectic sound.

New York: Paul Shapiro’s Ribs & Brisket Revue

April 21, 2016 at The Iridium in New York.

tracking.php?code=dB5KKj9V5z5PtlchN8J80d

Band Line-Up:
Paul Shapiro – Sax, Clarinet & Vocals
Cilla Owens – Vocals
Glenn Turner – Vocals
Brian Mitchell – Piano
Brad Jones – Bass
Tony Lewis – Drums

STRAIGHT NO CHASER- UK:

Hard blowing, finger-snapping, klezmer-inflected jazz and wailing big city blues that suddenly slips into Yiddish… Shapiro tips his beret to Slim Gaillard with a couple of his tunes in praise of kosher cuisine, pours soul sauce and reggae beats over Jewish comedy songs and generally rips into things with just the right mix of irreverence and affection… Respect is due to John Zorn’s Tzadik label for bringing this unique recording to the world. There really is no one else doing it quite like Shapiro!

Jazzreview.com

The jocularity and swing-jazz vibe in the tracks have a big stage personality and presage a trend for Yiddish/klezmer accents to modernize songs that have laid dormant for years. Paul Shapiro was just the guy to do it… Maybe the most impressive track on the album is the first one “Essen,” which is a massive collage of Yiddish swing, theatre-cabaret, gypsy-punk and hip-hop thrusts. What “Bohemian Rhapsody” is to Queen, “Essen” is to Paul Shapiro. He seams various music styles and forms a saucy cohesive storyline. The entwining patterns are a great challenge that takes the mind of a genius. -Susan Frances

Downsville: JetLAGxPANGEA 2016

June 24, 2016 at Peaceful Valley Campsite in Downsville.

tracking.php?code=Jc83i3kqZsK52gPbR5f9Kc

Since 2009, JetLAG Festival has been a yearly family reunion of the Russian-American/ex-pat/Jew(ish)/weird/hippie/freak diaspora, but in the last few years, the festival has radically grown in size and blossomed into a culturally dazzling event. In 2010, a small camp called “Burning Man Camp” planted a seed, which grew over the years into “Wonderland”, a huge interactive island space where participants can play, practice yoga and meditation, explore and create music, participate in workshops, and create art. The main goal of Burning Man Camp and Wonderland was to create a unified experience aimed to inspire creativity, elevate consciousness and bring peace. This year, Wonderland is shapeshifting into a new creative zone, called PANGEA! Run by a new group of young and inspirational volunteers, it preserves much of it’s spirit with some new additions!

۞ What is PANGEA? ۞
Pangea’s vision is to create a space where people can work together to create their own mutual experience. We’ll have old-time Wonderland favorites, like the Chai Lounge, Fire-Spinners, DJ sets, and the Caterpillar Lounge (you know, that giant glowing mushroom you sat under?). This year, we are also introducing new events, such as live musical performances from up and coming bands, new workshops, and a story-telling party!

In the spirit of creating one’s own experience, we’re also restructuring our volunteer network, so that YOU can get involved in making this happen! If you want to run your own workshop, event, or performance on the PANGEA super-island, or just lend us a helping hand in setting up and maintaining the space, check our participation links here:
http://www.pangeastage.com/getinvolved

۞ INTERACTIVE SPACE ۞
In three days on the Pangea island, there will be lots of great events to take part in, workshops to learn from, and games to play!
From lounges, to yoga, you will find what you love, and love what you find!

✷Tea Lounge✷
Sit down, and take a sip of a hot cup of Chai in our annual Tea Lounge! It’s the lounge you know and love, revitalized for 2016.

✷Hookah Lounge✷
Whhoooo are yoouuuu? Come hang out in The Caterpillar Lounge, and sit underneath the larger-than-life mushroom! You’ll be sure to see it glowing from a mile away.

✷Yoga and Meditation✷

✷Healing Tent✷
The PANGEA Healing tent is an area of the festival dedicated to giving/receiving donation-based professional healing services. This year we are blessed to offer positions for bodyworkers, massage therapists, energetic healers, crystal therapists, ayurvedics, herbalists, energyworkers, and all those trained or certified in the healing arts and wanting to join in our event!

✷Campfire Jams✷
Dive back to to the fire where it all began. From the original Pangea today, humanity has come far, and it all began with the mastery of the flame. But in more recent history, JetLAG grew from a culture of acoustic jams around firepits, and we’ll be continuing the tradition with pits throughout the island

✷Workshops✷
Ever wanted to play with fire, or dance with the staff? Come join for a intro spin class! Explore the many workshops we will be offering throughout the weekend (more info coming soon!)

Big Mean Sound Machine’s music stimulates both your body and your mind! “This ensemble of 13 musicians bring together the musical languages of West Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and North America to create a lush bed of rhythm and harmony that embraces even the most hardcore fans of both Traditional Funk and Avant-Garde Jazz – and everyone in between! Anyone who has witnessed Big Mean Sound Machine live knows that their performances are among the heaviest and the sweatiest. ”
