EPAC Summer Session 2016
July 11- August 19, 2016
All classes are $45 per student for a six week session unless otherwise noted, OR take unlimited summer classes for $225 per student!
3:00-4:00 Fundamentals of Tumbling- This class will focus on beginner tumbling skills and the basics of core exercises and engagement. Students will learn to perfect form and technique and they master level one skills. Skills that will be covered, but are not limited to include forward rolls and backward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, and more.
4:00-5:00 Intermediate tumbling class- This class will focus on intermediate Level 2 tumbling skills. Students will work on continuing to improve technique and form of Level 2 skills, while learning proper technique and form necessary to master front and back walkovers, front and back handsprings, moving into tucks if the instructors feel that the students have advanced to a level necessary to achieve these skills.
5:00-6:00 Conditioning 101- Drop into the studio for $5 per class for this weekly one hour conditioning class that will focus on core strengthening exercises and cardiovascular exercise necessary to build muscle in increase your stamina in your dance life and daily activities. This class is for all ages.
6:00-7:00 Hip Hop 1- Have fun learning the basics of hip hop moves in this introductory class for dancers ages 8-12.
7:00-8:00 Hip Hop 2- Have fun learning more advanced hip hop techniques and choreography in this fun summer session for dancers ages 13 and up.
3-3:45 Tiny dancer ballet– Classes will incorporate movement games and activities as a way of exploring body awareness, musicality, group dynamics, creativity and self-expression. Ballet technique will be introduced as well as work with beat and rhythms. Classes are fun and each child is individually challenged while being encouraged to learn at his or her own pace (ages 3-5)
3:45-4:45 jr ballet – For students who are beginning ballet training, or who have previous training but are new to Vaganova method. Emphasis in this class will be placed on learning basic positions of the feet, head and arms (port de bras). Students will spend a majority of the class learning at the barre. In the center, students will learn the concepts of body position, croise and efface. Attention is placed on learning the fundamentals of ballet training. Instruction in this level will build upon basics of position and will emphasis poses of the body, work in center and in releve, as well as simple adage, jumps and turns.
4:45-5:45 sr ballet- Level III: Upon successful mastery of Level II principles, students will expand upon their repertoire of movements. Increased work in the center and mastery of balance will be stressed. Introduction of pointe work will begin. Students will work towards a mastery of more complicated jumps and turns. Artistry of movement will be emphasized. Emphasis will be placed on presentation and clean technique. This class will introduce the basics/ concepts of pointe work and strength. Class will begin with a basic barre to strengthen feet, ankles and core. Once students become strong enough to move away from the barre, class will move to basic center work, combinations and choreography. Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student’s strength and physical development, at the discretion of the instructor, not by their age.
5:45-6:30 Pointe- For those students who have graduated to pointe work in ballet, this class will work to further develop their skills and strength.
6:30-7:30 Lyrical/contemporary ages 10 and up- . Classes include strengthening warm ups, stretching techniques to elongate and encourage muscle strength, across the floor movements, leaps, turns and center combination work to fun and upbeat, recognizable music. Our students will have great knowledge of their terminology, a visual change in strength and flexibility, and a great appreciation for the dance form.
3:00-4:00 Combo Camp- for our smallest dancers, this class will focus on learning the basics of creative movement in jazz and tap. Students will learn body awareness, muscle control, basic dance terminology and fun choreography! Recommended for dancers ages 4-7
4:00-5:00 Tap 1- This fun and active tap session will focus on building basics with tap dancers while exploring different styles of tap in the dance world. Students will learn skills and choreography. Recommended for tappers ages 8-12.
5:00-6:00 Mini Pom Camp- This class is for those interested in learning more about pom style dance at a young age, which incorporates jazz and hip hop dance styles into choreography using hand held pom poms. Recommended for dancers ages 7 -9.
6:00-7:00 Tap 2- This class will continue to explore more advanced tap techniques and styles in the dance world. Students will work on building cleanliness, speed and creativity in their tap choreography. Recommended for tappers ages 13 and up, or by recommendation of the instructor.
7:00-8:00- Hooping 1- This fun interactive class teaches the basics of hooping and is for all ages. Hoops will be provided.
8:00-9:00- Hooping 2- This fun interactive class is recommended for those with intermediate to advanced hooping skills. Hoops will be provided.
