Rockville Centre: Meet Author Lanrewaju

April 15, 2017 at Turn of the Corkscrew, Books & Wine in Rockville Centre.

Lanrewaju was inspired to write Where’s the Ring? Uncovering Reasons for Not Being Married by encountering many single women who worry about not being married. Its honest and revealing insights are passionately bound together to provide answers to the compelling question about why there are so many unmarried women who want to married. Looking past the ratio of the number of men and the number of women, readers will be surprised by discoveries that can impact how they think, how they feel, and what they do. A collection of letters, narratives, and insightful views, expose the reader to different experiences and subjects that show how women are motivated to have a desire to get married and why there are a significant number of women who want to be married. Lanrewaju is the author of How Did I Choose the Wrong Man? She taught secondary English in New York.

Throughout April
From the artist: As a transit bus driver, I’m a de facto street person; as an artist, I’m a de facto scavenger. Collecting flotsam and jetsam from the streets (rusted metal, feathers, leaves, etc.), I
piece together CONSTRUCTIONS on scrap wood from the curb. It’s my way of building something meaningful from the refuse I find beautiful, create to give a new context for trash.

Scarsdale: Hitchcock Day of Mission with AFYA

March 12, 2017 at Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale.

On the afternoon of March 12th, all Hitchcock members and friends, young and old, are invited to come and help pack kits with medical (and other) supplies, which will be sent to places around the world, especially to refugees who have been forced to flee their homes and now reside in camps. The reality is that there are medical professionals prepared to help, but too often they do not have the basic supplies that they need. So, the AFYA (Afya is Swahili for “good health”) foundation has asked for Hitchcock’s help to collect and pack kits to be shipped overseas!
Here’s how it will work: Beginning February 1st, we will be collecting the items listed below. Then, on March 12th, a large truck from AFYA will arrive at Hitchcock with the rest of the supplies, and with professionals to help us accomplish our work! The items that we collect and pack will then be loaded onto pallets, put back in the truck, and taken to freighters to be shipped to where they are needed most. Read a bit more about AFYA below, and please go to their website to learn more about them…then start bringing in items!

Items for collection:
Bacitracin, Individual Hand Sanitizers, Pen Lights, Rainboots, Baby Diapers, Hats and Blankets, Soap, School Supplies, Office Supplies, Ace Bandages, Toothpaste, Tooth Brushes and New Combs

Address: 6 Greenacres Ave, Scarsdale
