Sometimes, it is through trying to be what we are not that we realize what we are.

Playing a game requires engagement, and through engagement we devise strategies. We try different tactics, make mistakes, and find what works; our survival depends on it. Often, the same strategy does not work for everyone. A story quickly unfolds: conflict, reversals, betrayal, allegiances–a drama.

Strategy reveals character. What are you willing to reveal?

Ariel is an Actor Creator, Physical Comedian. She has always taken comedy seriously, (and found the humor in tragedy), but it wasn’t until she trained at Dell’Arte International (MFA Ensemble Physical Theatre ‘14), that she realized playing with these extremes was her path. How does she play? By trying and doing everything. Professionally, (as in, people pay her to do these things) she is a performer, director, teacher, puppeteer, writer, and carpenter-painter. In NYC, she has worked with The Talking Band, Columbia Stages, Stegosaurus Collective, LES Shakespeare, Puppet Kitchen, and is a company member of Built4Collapse. Ariel has taught workshops in movement, play, journaling, and leadership in Seattle, Chicago, and Humbolt, CA. www.ariellauryn.com

The Ume Group is a New York – based Physical Theatre Ensemble, dedicated to sharing traditions and developing new work. We believe that a good Physical Theatre Artist is constantly learning, creating, teaching, and performing. We are hailed by critics for our “commanding, physically impressive performances” (The Village Voice) and “risky physical vulnerability” (nytheatre.com) which basically means… we do a lot of handstands and funky butoh stuff.
