Major Player is the brainchild of songwriter and instrumentalist Jeffrey York. With lyrics that explore the darker places of love and age, Major Player maintains a pop driven focus while delivering creative melodies and catchy vocal hooks. Major Player is otherworldly, moody and emotional. Joined by a cast of Syracuse musicians, you will see York preform with songwriter and engineer Andrew Greacen on bass, drummer Liz Strodel and former band mateof the indie outfit Animal Pants, Nick Mazzeo on organ & electric piano. Expecta thought-provokingwalk through theirsonic stream of hip-hop drums, vintage keys, synthesizers and fuzz guitar. With their first single already available through the Chicago Indie label ears&eyes, Major Player is expected to release theirdebut EP later this summer.
I am a singer songwriter, musician and composer. I primarily perform on the requinto and cello. I perform and record both as a solo artist and as the lead singer/songwriter for the Gonstermachers. I am currently in postproduction on the fourth CD of my compositions and writing the material for my fifth.
I recently toured Africa sponsored by the State Department (US Embassy in Senegal), been nominated for Australia’s Bluestar Award, charted #14 nationally in Roots and Blues airplay and have been the recipient of a Meet the Composer Grant and several commissions. I receive airplay in the US, Europe and Australia.
I am the founding member of the Gonstermachers and the main songwriter in the group. I often play my electric music songs in a solo acoustic arrangement and vice versa.
In addition to being a songwriter I am also a filmmaker and a composer. My music has been heard internationally in Edinborough, Toronto, Montreal, Barcelona, etc. I have received dozens of commissions for film scores, dance productions, theater performances and accompaniment for visual arts installations.
Locally I have performed and/or exhibited at the Redhouse, Jazz Central, Everson Museum of Art, Alfred University, Pyramid Art Gallery, Spark Gallery, Syracuse University, Lemoyne College, Cazenovia College and many other venues.
