Peekskill: Original Roots, Rock & Pop with Frank Migliorelli & the Dirt Nappers

October 23, 2015 at BeanRunner Café in Peekskill.

Frank Migliorelli & The Dirt Nappers are back for a night of roots-rock originals and celebrating the release of their new album. Frank and the band will be featuring songs from that soon-to-be-named album all night long. As a special “sneak peak” treat, the first 25 guests will receive a copy of a limited single release of “And It Feels Like Chains” from the new album. The Dirt Nappers will be there in full force-Tony Tino (bass), Duncan Cleary (guitar), Eric Puente (drums) and Roisin Carlin (vocals). Roisin was a finalist on the Irish version of the television music competition “The Voice” and blew the house down last time she was with us , so we just had to have her back! (The Sleepy Hahas are on tour and no longer on the bill…)

Even though this year marks The Dodos’ tenth anniversary as a band, they’ve managed to crawl along without ever grabbing the spotlight with a firm hand. Much like Mew, The Walkmen, or Joanna Newsom, the indie rock band’s fanbase is cultish but quiet. Fans covet each record and turn up for every show without writing extensive thinkpieces about the underlying message of their genius, although perhaps it’s because there are too many lines present in their music to even begin reading in-between them. The duo of Meric Long and Logan Kroeber have never stopped pushing themselves. As The Dodos explain, it’s less about making headlines and more about getting people to drum on their steering wheels, to feel the true pulse of their heavy rhythms.

“The Dodos began their career as avowed primitivists before eventually experimenting with ways to broaden their sound. Longtime fans of the band will appreciate Individ’s back-to-basics quality, which generally forgoes electric guitars in favor of Long’s maniacal strumming and dexterous, breakneck time changes. “Competition”, the record’s first single, showcases the band at their most deceptively simple: dueling guitar lines playing against a staccato rhythm, all being tugged along by Long’s effortless vocal. In this case, the band’s reaction against perfection is what makes most of Individ so sublime. Both Long and Kroeber are virtuoso musicians, and while Long’s vocals rarely ever strain to be anything more than pleasantly plaintive, hearing he and Kroeber push themselves to the point of raggedness as musicians is what continues to make the Dodos’ music such a surprising and singular listen.” – Pitchfork

“Even for a band built on the force, persistence, and interplay of its rhythmic elements, The Dodos’ latest album is a kinetic marvel. The sixth album from the duo of Meric Long (vocals and guitar) and Logan Kroeber (drums and percussion) pushes the band’s restless energy higher than ever, while also adding a welcome sense of without-a-net adventurousness. Recorded on the heels of 2013’s Carrier, in the same studio (San Francisco’s Tiny Telephone) and with the same engineers (Jay and Ian Pellicci), Individ is the sound of a band confident and engaged, striking while the amps and mics are hot.” – The Onion A.V. Club

Brooklyn’s Finest edition at DOWN:
“Showcasing the creme de la creme of up & coming talent from around the way.”

featuring (in alphabetical order):

is a Chicago born and raised DJ/Producer with an affinity for dark techno, acid, and Detroit electro. He started doing parties 5 years ago in dirty Boston basements that were constantly flooding and almost exploded that one time the gas line broke. In New York, he threw Bushwick’s most intimate party with unnecessary sized sound until booted by PC punx, and all morning afters to unnecessary hours until booted by landlords.

with her feet planted firmly in the underground and her head high in the clouds, Cry Baby’s meteoric impact on NYC nightlife has been undeniable since her arrival. Demonstrating a masterful control of both the tone and feel of her sets, and by extension, her audience, she’s set herself apart from both the “it” DJs and scene veterans alike with her fresh take on techno and house. Last year saw her upward trajectory increase as her House On Mute parties took to such lauded venues as Brooklyn’s Output, Le Bain at The Standard and Cielo in NYC, Miami’s Electric Pickle, and countless cavernous Brooklyn warehouses. Her deep, unrelenting and forceful sound shifted bodies and perceptions in whatever room you found her. The coming year promises a focus on touring and production so that more of the world might have the opportunity to experience the force that is Cry Baby.

is a multitalented dj / producer who’s worked in every facet of the night club industry. Born & raised in the Chelsea neighborhood of manhattan, Das’s life long passion of music started for him at New York‘s Studio 54 when he was in his early teen’s watching Louie Vega mix and hanging with the b-boys of the 80’s. He entered the nightclub scene starting as bar back, coat check, bartender, bouncer, promoter, manager, and more. But it wasn’t until recently that he took his live long passion from in front, to behind the decks. His eclectic blend of music is one that you know came from the early roots of house and has progressed into a modern electronic sound that is full of soul and raw to the core.

DJ Kelee
has produced, collaborated, and remixed tracks for some of the best labels around. His work has been featured on Ultra, Nervous, Junior Boys Own and his own imprint Ggressive Recordings. From his battle days of rubbing 1200’s with the DMC elites to playing venues such as Limelight, Tunnel, USA, Octagon, Exit, Webster Hall, Pacha NYC and as many Raves as he can remember, he continues to push House Music forward.

is the outcome of a journey of two guys who, being from the same city, met years later in a different country and who have ended up sharing a common passion, music. Andres Acevedo and A-Kintero met in NYC while both independently pursued their music careers as dj’s in search of making their imprint in the city’s electronic music scene. For the past 3 years, they have joined forces in producing music and have together transitioned to their new name “intimate Project”. This new facet of their musical career reflects a more polished and refined production, a natural development of their commitment to experiment with sound.

New York born and raised with a Cyprian-Italian ethnic background, John Amity has been influenced by underground Techno,Progressive, Acid, Psy-Trance, and house styles from a young age. He strives to create an everlasting image to express his passion for underground House music scene.

is the Queen B at “Cultivated Sound” a Brooklyn based music and event production team that produces and promotes emerging electronic music professionals to present their music on a worldwide scale, while specializing in throwing exclusive underground warehouse events in Bushwick, New York.

an electronic music collective with a distinct concept comprised of it’s leader dhArma111 (drummer and vocalist). organicArma develops, in body, mind and beyond, the expression of art through music. By using philosophy, linguistics, psychology and technology, the band fearlessly tackles taboo themes and disassociation between opposites. Their live show is a unique and visionary experience featuring raw instrumentation on futuristic devices matched with progressive visuals resulting in an experience for all the senses. In 2011, they released their first full-length album, Under Duality, with an accompanying disc full of remixes by groundbreakers such as Heartthrob and DJ Spooky. Later that year, Under Duality: The Remixes was released and featured remixes crafted by Miamians like SpinnZinn and Dusthead. They are back in the studio and can’t wait to share the next stage of the journey with you.

these homies are back at it again! It was love and first beat for these two as they’ve played together as duo more then they’ve played apart in 2015. They bring a unique blend of music from Patafunk’s tropical & latin backround, to Amoroso’s old school New York City style & new school acid sound.
