SongLives: We/Or/Me with Vincent Cross

Friday, June 10 | 8 PM

“Gorgeous…emotionally wrenching…delicate melodies and heartbreaking narratives…Reminiscent of Bert Jansch or Leonard Cohen.” — Robin Hilton, NPR, All Songs Considered

We/Or/Me is the musical alias of Bahhaj Taherzadeh, quite possibly the world’s only Persian-Irish singer/songwriter. Based in Chicago, and described by NPR Music as “gorgeous” and “reminiscent of Bert Jansch or Leonard Cohen,” We/Or/Me has grown to include a revolving cast of collaborators over the years including Vashti Bunyan and producer Brian Deck.

“He writes narrative songs he sings beautifully and wonderfully arranges, with traditional bluegrass instruments” — Moors Magazine on Vincent Cross

With roots in Ireland and Australia, New York City based, rustic singer-songwriter Vincent Cross exemplifies the folk song tradition. Drawing inspiration from old-time mountain music, British ballads and traditional bluegrass, Cross also lyrically expresses an observant modern sensibility. He tours extensively in the US, Europe and Australia.

SongLives is curated by Grammy Award-winner Susan McKeown.

SongLives showcases some of Ireland and North America’s most exciting contemporary singer-songwriters, working on an intimate and personal scale, bringing the rich tradition of busking on Dublin’s Grafton Street and beyond to New York City.

New York: Mark Billingham in conversation with Lee Child: Die of Shame

June 22, 2016 at Barnes & Noble Upper West Side in New York.

tracking.php?code=4eJkOjEVS99J8el08m9IDJ

From British thriller master Mark Billingham, a recent finalist for the Crime Writers’ Association Dagger in the Library, Die of Shame is a chilling story of addiction, subterfuge, and murder.

Every Monday evening, six people gather in a smart North London house to talk about shame. A respected doctor, a well-heeled housewife, a young male prostitute . . . they could not be more different. All they have in common is a history of addiction. But when one of the group is murdered, it quickly becomes apparent that someone else in that circle is responsible. The investigation is hampered by the strict confidentiality that binds these individuals and their therapist together, which makes things difficult for Detective Inspector Nicola Tanner, a woman who can appreciate the desire to keep personal matters private. If she is to find the killer, she will need to use less obvious means. The question is: What could be shameful enough to cost someone their life? And how do you find the truth when secrets, lies, and denial are second nature to all of your suspects?

Join us Wednesday, June 22 at 7pm for a conversation and signing! Author Mark Billingham will be in conversation with Lee Child.
