New York: Art Sampler: Collage Portraits Dada Style

Using black marker and collage elements create a whimsical, easy and fun portrait in the style of art work created during the Dada Art movement that influenced surrealism, pop art and punk rock.

The goal of this class is to have fun while learning and exploring through the creative process!

Instant Treeline is a Brooklyn-based Americana group founded by musician Will Leet and lyricist Christopher Burns. The pair has spent the last 5 years crafting acoustic rock songs inspired by their shared passion for the woods and travels across the country. They are slated to release their debut album, “Morning Songs” this September. The album is grounded in classic American songwriting traditions and its intricate, unexpected structures are filled with resonant pop sensibility. Prepare the senses for a heart-drawn feel good vibe, resembling emotions of the bands Good Old War, Lake Street Dive, and Ryan Adams.

NYC native David Pollack combines influences such as Weezer, Death Cab For Cutie and James Taylor to create a smooth hooky indie pop sound pleasant to the ear. He will be joined by a full band for this show!

New York: Live at Penn Plaza: Brooklyn Qawwali Party

Brooklyn Qawwali Party is a thunderous 10-piece band from NYC that reworks the music of late Pakistani vocalist Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan into a sound all it’s own. Funky, smart, and loving, BQP captures the joyful spirit of Pakistani folk music in a unique instrumental blend of jazz and Qawwali. With five horns, guitar, bass, harmonium, and three percussionists, this band’s buoyant rhythm will be sure to get you on your feet and clapping.

#LiveatPennPlaza features live music on Monday and Tuesday evenings, 6 – 7:30pm and Tuesday and Thursday during the lunch hour, 12:30 – 1:30pm.

Monday nights feature soul, funk, and blues bands.
Tuesday nights are global dance parties.
Tuesday and Thursday afternoons are small acoustic concerts.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Matorin spent his early years studying violin and theory in Italy, Switzerland, and the United States. Since he began performing professionally at the age of 15 he has had the pleasure of collaborating with a diverse list of some of music’s most established and influential jazz artists. In his young career he has performed in front of such esteemed guests like Oprah, Billie Joel, and Colin Powell and been featured as a soloist at venues like The Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, The MoMA, The Blue Note, B.B. King’s and The United Nations. While rooted in the classical and jazz traditions, his music is influenced by modern dance and grooves to create infectious new sonic landscapes often using sound effects, vocals and loops. Matorin is quickly making a name for himself as an emerging force both as performer, songwriter and composer.
