August 08, 2015 at Woodstock Public Library District in Woodstock.
When Dylan Thomas came to the Mid-Hudson area to do a public reading, poetry lovers who missed it tore their hair and beat their breasts. A similar frenzy of regret occurred among those who missed hearing Wllliam Bronk read his work with Michael Perkins in 1978 at the Woodstock Library. When Henry Weinfield, one of America’s finest lyric poets, reads at the Library Forum poetry lovers will encounter greatness. Henry Weinfield is the author of Without Mythologies: New and Selected Poems and Translations (2008). His translations include: The Collected Poems of Stephane Mallarme, (University of California Press, 1995) and Hesiod: Theogony and Works and Days (2006). He is professor and the former Chair of the Program of Liberal Studies at University of Notre Dame.
As Kevin Hart wrote, “A poet of exquisite formal control, Henry Weinfield writes lyrical and narrative poems that have a rich, sad music for which the ear and heart hunger. This is a poetry to provoke and console….”
Joshua Coben is the author of Maker of Shadows, winner of the 2009 X.J. Kennedy Poetry Prize, Texas Review Press.
