Woodstock: Woodstock Library Forum: Henry Weinfield: A Poetry Reading

August 08, 2015 at Woodstock Public Library District in Woodstock.

A Literary Event. Introduced by Joshua Coben

When Dylan Thomas came to the Mid-Hudson area to do a public reading, poetry lovers who missed it tore their hair and beat their breasts. A similar frenzy of regret occurred among those who missed hearing Wllliam Bronk read his work with Michael Perkins in 1978 at the Woodstock Library. When Henry Weinfield, one of America’s finest lyric poets, reads at the Library Forum poetry lovers will encounter greatness. Henry Weinfield is the author of Without Mythologies: New and Selected Poems and Translations (2008). His translations include: The Collected Poems of Stephane Mallarme, (University of California Press, 1995) and Hesiod: Theogony and Works and Days (2006). He is professor and the former Chair of the Program of Liberal Studies at University of Notre Dame.

As Kevin Hart wrote, “A poet of exquisite formal control, Henry Weinfield writes lyrical and narrative poems that have a rich, sad music for which the ear and heart hunger. This is a poetry to provoke and console….”

Joshua Coben is the author of Maker of Shadows, winner of the 2009 X.J. Kennedy Poetry Prize, Texas Review Press.

Rochester: Maxim Spa and Salon presents: Porch PETicure

August 29, 2015 at Maxim Spa and Salon in Rochester.

Each year when the temperatures top 75 degrees, Maxim Spa & Salon opens its front porch for business. The popular Porch Pedicure series
treats hundreds of people to pretty toes every summer and early fall. The ambiance of the front porch coupled with the bustle of Park Ave.,
friendly staff, and a summer beverage is the perfect combination for rest and relaxation.
This year the porch is open with a new twist–between Wednesday August 26th (National dog day) and Saturday August 29th, 10% of the proceeds from porch PETicures
will be donated to the Verona Street Animal Society (VSAS) to benefit the Enrichment Program at Rochester Animal Services. On
Saturday August 29, toes and paws will meet when the salon hosts the first-ever Maxim Porch PETicure event to celebrate National Dog Day.
There will be spa services available for people and their four-legged friends, music all for a good cause.
National Dog Day is a special day that recognizes and acknowledges the important role dogs play in our lives and encourages pet ownership,
especially through adoption of rescue dogs. This sentiment is echoed by the work done at VSAS, which is dedicated to providing the resources
necessary to enable Rochester Animal Services to more effectively serve the public’s animal care and pet adoption interests.

Saratoga Springs: GIRLS NIGHT OUT! Goddess Groove with Jeanette Fultz

August 14, 2015 at Yoga Mandali in Saratoga Springs.

Reveal your radiant Goddess energy in this fun, dynamic yet meditative yoga dance workshop. Shimmy, laugh, contemplate, discover & bliss out as we creatively move on a journey to awakened presence, self love and acceptance. We’ll use ancient Goddesses, such as Kali, Aphrodite, Lakshmi, Durga, and more, as inspiration for the Vinyasa flows, the dances, and the moving meditation. IT’S GIRLS NIGHT OUT to get sexy, fierce & wise!

Jeanette Fultz’s goal is to inspire people to feel vibrantly alive, healthy, aware, and at home in their bodies through yoga, dance, and massage. After receiving her BFA in Communication Arts from Pratt Institute, Jeanette was inspired to pursue health and healing through movement; first by training to become a NYS Licensed Massage Therapist in 1995, then going on to get her Yoga Teacher Certification from Kripalu in 2004. It was at Kripalu where she fell in love with the freedom, power and grace of Kripalu’s Yoga-dance, which generated a passion to learn and experience more types of freedom-based dance. She went on to study with Gabrielle Roth, Shiva Rea, Daniel Leven, and more renowned Yoga masters. Dance proved to be not only an exhilaratingly fun form of exercise, but deeply healing on all levels. Jeanette now teaches Therapeutic Yoga classes at Bloom, has a massage practice in Saratoga, and leads fun dance parties for women to celebrate birthdays, bachelorette parties, and girl’s night out.

Buffalo: The McCartney Years

October 23, 2015 at Center for the Arts, University at Buffalo in Buffalo.

$29.50 All seats
The Premier Paul McCartney Concert Experience!

There are many Beatles tributes, but there’s only one show that celebrates the genius of Paul McCartney at the height of his career in the mid-1970s. Praised by the late Beatles promoter Sid Bernstein – the man who brought the original Beatles to North America – as “the best on the scene today,” The McCartney Years is a note-for-note, 100% live faithful recreation of a mid-1970s Paul McCartney concert.

Whether he plays an original Beatles-era Höfner bass or sports the same wardrobe from the ‘Wings over America’ mid-1970s tour, Yuri Pool is true to Sir Paul in his musicianship, vocal stylings and presentation. And the band doesn’t miss a beat delivering a texture that will transport you back to the first time you heard these great songs on vinyl. The players include David Usselman (guitars and bass); Braden DeCooman (guitars); Hubert Orlowski (keyboards and synth); Laura Gagnon (percussion and keyboards); Dean McKey (drums) and Yuri on bass, lead vocals, piano and guitar.

Experience three decades of The Beatles and Wings live – with the world’s premier McCartney concert experience. Dance, sing and relive your passion for McCartney with a band that has opened for Mariah Carey, performs sold-out shows across Canada, the U.S. and Europe and was featured on CNN.
