The volatility of the antiques silver market can make the role of the appraiser a difficult one to navigate. With 20 years of experience appraising antique silver, Todd Sell, Vice President at Doyle New York will, discuss the tools needed to efficiently appraise silver in today’s market. He will discuss details such as hallmarks, provenance, repairs and alterations and how they affect value. Furthermore, he will focus on prices today and where they are heading, as well as the importance of quality makers vs. generic pieces. Finally, he will touch on silver plate, what to do with it, and the few exceptions where there is value.

Todd Sell is Vice President of Modern Design, silver specialist and general appraiser of works of art and furniture at Doyle New York. He works directly with Doyle New York‘s Trusts & Estates Department and coordinates and catalogues DOYLE + DESIGN and the popular Doyle At Home auctions.

Schodack Landing: Raptor FEST

May 20, 2017 at Schodack Island State Park in Schodack Landing.


Schodack Island State Park will join with Audubon Society of the Capital Region to host the park’s first Raptor Fest, a day dedicated to birds of prey. The day will begin with a Migratory Bird Walk at 8am, followed by a Raptor Walk at 9:30am, with both walks meeting up at the Riverview Pavilion. The main events of Raptor Fest will begin at 10am in the day use area. Local author, Darryl McGrath, will discuss her book Flight Paths and will be available for autographs. Mike Lemery, a local videographer, will share bald eagle footage, and his experience filming these incredible birds. Live birds of prey will be present all day, accompanied by wildlife rehabilitators from Whispering Willow Wild Care and Outpost #4, and there will be two flight demonstrations by Sky Hunters and Silent Wings. The day will also feature kids activities, an owl pellet dissection, bird box building, as well as food and artisan vendors. There will be a $6 fee per vehicle to enter the park after 8am. In a series of discussions, we’ll explore the nature of fascism, lessons from the history of its rise in the 1920s-30s, the particular manifestations of the homegrown rightwing in this country, and–most importantly–what can and must be done to defeat it.
