Astoria: Lynn Bixenspan and Lane Moore Co-headline at QED!

July 23, 2015 at QED: A Place to Show & Tell in Astoria.

QED welcomes two top notch funny people to share the bill in a co-headlining night of comedy.

ABOUT THE COMEDIANS

Lynn Bixenspan is really nice! Also, she’s done a lot of stuff. She hosts and produces the storytelling and therapy show Relationshit. She’s been on MTV, Comedy Central, and the Biography Channel. She’s also written for Fuse. She was nominated for an Emerging Comics of New York Award. The Frisky called her one of the feminists you must follow on Twitter and Huffington Post said she has the funniest tweets, so, you know, she’s great at Internet AND real life! Festivals include: Laughing Devil, Cape Fear, She-Devil, and more. You might have heard her on RISK! or seen her telling stories and doing stand-up but you might not have. You should, though! She probably wants to be friends.

Lane Moore is a stand-up comedian, writer, actor, and musician living in New York City. Paste Magazine named her #19 of the 75 Funniest People On Twitter in 2014 and CBS called her monthly Tinder Live comedy show one of the 5 Best Comedy Shows in NYC. She is a prolific writer for The Onion, McSweeney’s, Someecards, GQ, WitStream, MTV Video Music Awards, Elle, Esquire, Ms. Magazine, Marie Claire, XOJane, and Feministing, Sex & Relationships Editor at Cosmopolitan.com, a regular commentator on VH1 and MTV talking head shows, and a former editor for Jezebel and Autostraddle.

Astoria: Greece Votes NO to Austerity! What’s Next for SYRIZA?

July 12, 2015 at Greater Astoria Historical Society in Astoria.

In a historic referendum vote, the Greek people once again rejected austerity and the economic blackmail of the big banks, financial institutions, and European Union. This brave stand will encourage anti-austerity movements across Europe and around the world, especially heavily indebted Spain, Italy, Ireland and Portugal where mass resistance is growing to Europe’s financial oligarchy.

Yet Greece’s “no” vote opens up a new and dangerous moment. Will the left-wing Syriza government simply use the referendum to negotiate a slightly less-worse austerity package in exchange for new loans from the big banks? Or will they use this victory to adopt socialist policies, refusing any further financial blackmail by nationalizing the banks and top industries and mobilizing workers power from below to rebuild the economy?
