The Brooklyn Poets Reading Series returns on Thursday, September 8, at 61 Local, featuring poets Paige Taggart, Camille Rankine and Mathias Svalina. Admission is free and open to the public. Food and drinks will be available from 61 Local.

Doors open at 7:30, reading begins at 7:45. 61 Local is located at 61 Bergen St, Brooklyn, NY 11201 (off Smith St), right down the street from the Bergen F/G stop and a few blocks from the Borough Hall 4/5 stop, the Hoyt 2/3 stop and the Hoyt – Schermerhorn A/C/G stop.
Paige Taggart is the author of two full-length poetry collections, Or Replica (Brooklyn Arts Press, Dec 2014) and Want for Lion (Trembling Pillow Press, March 2014), and five chapbooks, most recently I Am Writing To You from Another Country: Translations of Henri Michaux (Greying Ghost Press). She graduated with a BA in Visual Studies from California College of the Arts and went on to complete an MFA in Creative Writing at the New School. She was a 2009 NYFA fellow and is the founder of Mactaggart Jewelry.

Camille Rankine’s first book of poetry, Incorrect Merciful Impulses, was published in January by Copper Canyon Press. She is the author of the chapbook Slow Dance with Trip Wire, selected by Cornelius Eady for the Poetry Society of America’s 2010 New York Chapbook Fellowship, and a recipient of a 2010 “Discovery”/Boston Review Poetry Prize. Her poetry has appeared in Atlas Review, American Poet, The Baffler, Boston Review, Denver Quarterly, Gulf Coast, Octopus Magazine, Paper Darts, Phantom Books, A Public Space, Tin House and elsewhere. She is a visiting professor at UMass Amherst, serves on the Executive Committee of VIDA: Women in Literary Arts and lives in New York City.

Mathias Svalina is the the author of five books, including Destruction Myth (Cleveland State University Poetry Center), Wastoid (Big Lucks Books) and the recently released The Wine-Dark Sea (Sidebrow Books). He is an editor for the small press Octopus Books and runs a dream delivery service.
