May 19, 2016 at Towne Crier in Beacon.
Dinner reservations 5-8 p.m.
Monthly “Dance Jams” in Beacon were started nearly three years ago at the Howland Center by organizer and DJ, Rhoda Averbach. This change in venue to the iconic Towne Crier‘s performance room – with its restaurant, full bar service, separate music/club room, state of the art sound system and capacity of 100 – gives the community an awesome place for dancing. The setting is friendly and informal, and all are welcome: singles, couples, friends and newcomers.
Kick off the weekend dancing to a rich mix of familiar, much loved songs in a wide variety of styles, rhythms and moods, along with lesser known, but equally thrilling music by the masters. Dance Jam feature derivatives of many African and Latin genres from the ‘60s to present – R&B, soul, funk, blues, gospel, reggae and jazz, along with the gorgeous Latin rhythms of salsa, cha-cha, merengue, bachata, cumbia, guajira, samba and others. Rock, disco, swing and zydeco are also part of the mix. Occasionally, we feature guest artists, one of whom is the wonderful vocalist, Efrain ‘La Voz’ Colon.
People are also invited to join the Town Crier Dance Jam free Meetup group at: www.meetup.com/Towne-Crier-Dance-Jam. The site provides up to the minute notices, future events and much more.
